Mock tests are as important as previous year papers. Practicing mock test helps you in following ways,
- make you aware of your mistakes (like the concept, calculation, etc).
- make you aware of your strong points and weak points
- you can self judge your potential
For JEE Main we have witnessed with maximum number of students, that after giving 10 mock tests their score reached decent 230-245 marks from 130 marks which were in the first attempt. It appears to be a miracle but there is a process behind it.
Let me ellaborate so you can understand it better,
- Students write his first mock test, he scores around 130 marks.
- He is average in studies, but he is consistent
- In the first attempt, he spent 3 hours in attempting test and spend almost 3 hours in reviewing the test.
- He analyzed every question.
- For the wrong answer, he checked the solution and found out the mistakes. If required, he checked his concept.
- For the unattempted answer, he checked the concept and solution and found out why he was not able to solve that question.
- For the correct answer, he spent less time but reviewed to find an alternate method to solve it.
- After this process, he starts to fill up the gap which was left during his preparation.
By attempting and reviewing the test, he found a way to approach to new questions, polish the concepts which was weak, re-strengthen the strong concepts.
Finally when he tried new mock test, his score was approximately 175 marks which is almost improvement of 35%.
So, with every test, he follows the same strategy and finally in the 9th mock test he touched a score of 243 marks. Now his job was to either increase the marks or keep this performance consistent. So, he gives 2 mock test every week which keeps him in touch with all concepts and boost his performance and confidence.
