If the degree of the polynomial $q(x)$ is less than the degree of the polynomial $p(x)$, than the rational fraction $\frac{{p(x)}}{{q(x)}}$ is called as proper fraction.

Mathematically,

Degree of the polynomial, $q(x) \leqslant p(x)$

Examples of improper fraction $$\frac{{x^2 + 1}}{{3x + 2}}\quad ,\quad \frac{{{x^3}+2{x^2} + 5}}{{{x^2} + 5x + 2}}$$
