    11.0 Electric potential energy

11.0 Electric potential energy

The energy possessed by a system of charge by virtue of its position or configuration is known as the electric potential energy.

The electric potential energy of a system having two point charges $q_1$ and $q_2$ separated by a distance $r$ is given by,
$$\Delta U = \frac{1}{{4\pi {\varepsilon _0}}}\frac{{{q_1}{q_2}}}{r}$$
