3.0 Nuclear Structure
An atom consists of electrons revolving around the nucleus.

A nucleus consists of proton and neutron, collectively referred to as nucleons.

The number of protons is different in different elements and is given by its atomic number $Z$

In an electrically neutral atom, a number of nuclear protons are equal to the number of electrons in an orbit around the nucleus.

The total number of protons and neutrons is buffered to as the atomic mass number $A$ because the total mass is approximately equal to $A$ times the mass of a single proton.
