10.0 Electropositive Character of Metals
It also depends on the tendency to lose electrons. Same as reactivity, it also decreases from top to bottom in the electrochemical series. On the basis of values of standard reduction potential values, metals are divided into three categories.
1. Strongly electropositive metals: Metals which have standard reduction potential near about $-2.0V$ or more negative values like alkali and alkaline earth metals.
2. Moderately electropositive metals: Metals which have standard reduction potential in between $0.0V $ and $-2.0V$. Metals like $Al$, $Zn$, $Fe$ etc falls under this category.
3. Weakly electropositive metals: The metals which are below hydrogen and possess positive values of reduction potential. Example $Cu$, $Hg$, $Ag$ etc.
