The name are normally suffixed as $“oic$ acid” when $COOH$ group is the principal functional group and its carbon is counted while numbering longest chain. The carboxyl carbon is assigned number 1 in $IUPAC$ nomenclature. For example.

Dicarboxylic acid are named as alkanedioc acid.

Esters in $IUPAC$ nomenclature are named as alkyl alkanoate.
