Carbon is the essential constituent of all organic compounds.
Organic compounds are mainly composed of $C$, $H$, $O$ and $N$.
Sometimes $P$, $S$, $F$, $Cl$, $Br$ and $I$ are very complex and possesses very high molecular mass.
Therefore, organic chemistry is defined as the study of hydrocarbons (compounds of carbon and hydrogen elements) and other compounds regarded as derivatives of hydrocarbons.
