The property of a material body by virtue of which it regains its original configuration (i.e shape and size) when the external deforming force is removed is called as elasticity.
The property of a material body by virtue of which it does not regain its original configuration when external deforming force is removed is called as plasticity.
Deforming Force
An external force applied to a body which changes its size and shape or both is called deforming force.
Perfectly Elastic Body
A body which regain its original configuration immediately and completely after the removal of deforming force from it, such type of body is known as perfectly elastic body.
Quartz and phosphor bronze are the examples of nearly perfectly elastic bodies.
Perfectly Inelastic Body
A body which does not regain its original configuration at all on the removal of the deforming force, however small the deforming force may be, such type of body is known as perfectly inelastic body.
Paraffin wax, wet clay are the examples of nearly perfectly inelastic bodies.
