1.0 Definition
Co-ordinate geometry is that branch of mathematics in which geometrical problems are solved with the help of algebra. It is also called Analytical geometry.
Co-ordinate Axes
The position of a point in a plane is determined with reference to two intersecting straight lines called the co-ordinate axes and their point of intersection is called the origin.
Two types of axes:
1. Rectangular axes: If two axes of reference ($X$-axis and $Y$-axis) cut each other at right angle, they are called rectagular axes as shown in figure.
2. Oblique axes: If two axes of reference ($X$-axis and $Y$-axis) do not cut each other at right angle, they are called oblique axes as shown in figure.
