8.2 Metal Deficiency Defect
This defect is caused by the missing cation from its lattice site. The extra negative charge may be balanced if the adjacent metal ion has higher positive charge. This can be possible by compounds of transition metals (variable valency). Crystals of $FeO$, $FeS$ and $NiO$ show this defect.
