Chemistry > Chemical Equilibrium > 2.0 Chemical Equilibrium

  Chemical Equilibrium
    1.0 Introduction
    2.0 Chemical Equilibrium
    3.0 Law of mass action
    4.0 Equilibrium Constant
5.0 Important Relationship Involving Equilibrium Constant
6.0 Reaction Quotient ($Q$) and prediction of direction of reaction
    7.0 Relationship Between $\Delta {G^ \circ }\ and\ K$
8.0 Factors Affecting Equilibrium (Le-Chatelier's Principle)

2.1 Characteristics of chemical equilibrium
1. Equilibrium is dynamic i.e. both the forward and backward reactions proceed at the same rate.

2. At equilibrium, all macroscopic properties such as pressure, concentration, density and colour etc. remain invariant with time.

3. Chemical equilibrium can be approached from either side.

4. A catalyst doesn't affect the position of chemical equilibrium. It only helps in attaining the equilibrium earlier.
