    4.0 Polarisation

4.0 Polarisation

The phenomenon of restricting the vibrations of light (electric vector) in a particular direction perpendicular to the direction of wave motion is known as polarisation of light.

In polarised light, the electric field oscillate in only one direction.

The plane in which vibrations of polarised light are confined is known as plane of vibration.

Polarising of light is achieved by polarising filter.

A plane which is perpendicular to the plane of vibration is known as the plane of polarisation.
