Dot product is also known as a scalar product.
Mathematically dot product is written as,
$$\overrightarrow A .\,\overrightarrow B = \left| {\overrightarrow A } \right|\left| {\overrightarrow B } \right|\cos \theta $$
$\left| {\overrightarrow A } \right|$ and $\left| {\overrightarrow B } \right|$ are the magnitudes of vector $\overrightarrow A $ and $\overrightarrow B $.
$\theta :$ angle between vector $\overrightarrow A $ and $\overrightarrow B $.
