In electromagnetic wave, the rate of flow of energy perpendicularly through a unit area is described by a vector known as poynting vector.
The poynting vector is, $$\overrightarrow S = \frac{1}{{{\mu _0}}}\left( {\overrightarrow E \times \overrightarrow B } \right)$$
where,
${{\mu _0}}$: Permeability of space
${\overrightarrow E }$: Electric field
${\overrightarrow B }$: Magnetic field
Note: The SI unit of poynting vector is $W{m^{ - 2}}$.
