1.4 Gravity
It is defined as the force of attraction exerted by the earth towards the center on a body lying on or near the surface of the earth.

  • Gravity is the measure of the weight of the body.
  • The weight of the body $\left( {mg} \right)$ is the product of mass $\left( m \right)$ and acceleration due to gravity $(g)$.
  • The unit of weight of the body is same as that of force.
  • Gravity is a vector quantity. It is always directed towards the center of the earth.
