When a reaction affects the rate of another reaction which may not otherwise occur under the same conditions, the phenomenon is called induced catalysis, e.g., sodium arsenite is not oxidized by air but if air is passed through a solution containing sodium arsenite and sodium sulphite, both undergo oxidation.
