  Motion in Two Dimension
    1.0 Introduction
    2.0 Projectile motion
3.0 Ground to ground projectile motion
4.0 Projectile thrown parallel to the horizontal
5.0 Projectile on an inclined plane
6.0 Relative motion between two projectiles

2.2 Basic concept of projectile motion

Consider a projectile is thrown with a velocity $u$ making an angle $\theta$ with the horizontal.

  • At maximum height, the velocity along the $y-$ axis is zero.
  • Velocity along $x-$ is constant throughout out the motion.
  • Vertical velocity varies same as the motion under gravity.
  • Vertical and horizontal motion are independent of each other.
  • The only gravitational force acts on the body in the vertically downward direction during the motion.
  • So, velocity along the $y-$ axis (vertical direction) varies and the velocity along the $x-$ axis (horizontal direction) remains constant.
