- The process of conversion of less stable ion from lower positive oxidation state to more stable higher positive oxidation state and than in other more stable lower positive oxidation stable is called disproportion.
- In $Mn$ $+6$ oxidation state is unstable as compared to higher oxidation state $+7$ and also less stable than lower positive oxidation state $+4$ in acidic medium.
- Disproportion in $Mn$ is explained as $$3Mn{O_4}^{ - 2} + 4{H^ + } \to 2Mn{O_4}^ - + Mn{O_2} + 2{H_2}O$$
